Assistant Professor: Composite Damage Tolerance & Repair

Job description

A new era in aerospace structural engineering is unfolding as the industry is pushed to reconsider conventional metallic aircraft structural solutions in favour of more complex, yet potentially rewarding composite and hybrid solutions. The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering at Delft University of Technology is committed to advancing research in the field of advanced aircraft structures, having already been instrumental in developments leading to the application of thermoplastic composites and hybrid Fibre Metal Laminates (FMLs) on modern civil aircraft. To this end, the Faculty of Aerospace Engineering is seeking an outstanding candidate for a tenure-track position in the area of Composite Damage Tolerance and Repair within the Chair of Structural Integrity. Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: finite element analysis, thermoset composite manufacturing, impact behaviour of laminated materials, fractography, fatigue and damage tolerance, aircraft maintenance, and adhesive bonding.

Requirements
Applicants will hold a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering or a related branch of engineering. Applicants must demonstrate a successful record of research, reflected in extramural grant acquisition and publication in high quality, peer-reviewed journals. The recruited individual will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses, develop graduate level courses, and support departmental growth in aircraft structural research. He/she will also be expected to establish a strong externally funded research programme, supervise graduate students, and foster the existing collaborations with other departments.

Conditions of employment
TU Delft offers an attractive benefits package, including a flexible work week, free high-speed Internet access from home, and the option of assembling a customised compensation and benefits package (the 'IKA'). Salary and benefits are in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
TU Delft sets specific standards for the English competency of its teaching staff. TU Delft offers training to improve English competency.
