Director of MRI Research at Columbia University
The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science and the Department of Radiology at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University Medical Center invite applications for a tenure track/tenured faculty position and leadership role as Director of MRI Research. The salary and academic rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Responsibilities will include management of the Columbia University MRI Research Center and active participation in clinical and/or basic research. This position will involve in academic programs in the Department of Bio-medical Engineering including teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the position will involve the potential for interaction with Columbia’s new Zuckerman Mind, Brain, and Behavior institute in the development of new MRI protocols for cutting-edge neuroscience research.
Columbia University has world-class research programs in many areas including cancer diagnostics and therapeutics,neuroscience and neurology, cardiac disorders and orthopedics. The Director of MRI Research will be expected to articulate a vision for the future of MRI Research at Columbia and will be tasked with building a highly competitive MRI imaging program. Specifically, the Director will be responsible for overseeing (1) the promotion of basic research in medical imaging and related fields, (2) the administration of imaging services to the Columbia biomedical research community, (3) the training and mentorship of graduate students and future leaders in biomedical imaging, and (4) the recruitment of outstanding investigators. All aspects of MRI research will be considered ranging from clinical- and translational-based research including the understanding of basic disease processes, assessment of therapy. And development of new clinical imaging applications, to high-field technology development including RF coils, gradient technology, pulse sequences, and advanced spectroscopy techniques advancing studies in neuroscience, physiology, and medicine.
The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D., M.D., or both; a track record in successful NIH funding and quality publications in peer-reviewed journals; a strong track record in mentoring and leadership; and the desire to further develop a nationally prominent collaborative research effort. Candidates must have a background in medical imaging, medical physics, biomedical engineering, or related research fields.
